INSTALLING COMPOSITE DECKING
We like to help our customers learn with product and installation reviews and tips. Watch the following video to learn how to install decks with no screw holes using hidden fasteners.
Using hidden fastening systems and matching plugs
So likely one of the first things that you noticed when you purchased your composite deck boards was these unique grooves that come down the side of each of the composite deck boards. These grooves are put in the deck boards to allow for invisible fasteners to hold your decking down to your framing. So what this means is these fasteners fit in the grooves and screw directly into your framing so that there is no penetration through the surface of your deck board, so you don't see any pesky screw holes. CAMO fastener brands are the hidden fasteners that we like to promote here at Mountain View for a couple of reasons: One the contractors really like them because they're easy to use, as well as the retailers. You don't need any special tools to install the camel fastener system, a simple drill that you have at your house will do the trick just fine.
Using a plug match system
So for your border boards it's going to be a little different because you don't have the grooves. for these they have a cortex which is a plug system so you will screw in, and a color match plug will go into that so it matches your deck and you don't see the screw holes.
Composite Decking Fasteners
Composite Deck Fasteners are designed specifically for use with Composite Deck Boards. Their intention is to leave the surface of your composite deck with either a visible fastener free finish, or as close to it as possible. The grooved edges of a composite deck board are designed to accept a variety of hidden clip systems. These clip systems pinch the board to the subframe, and the clips screws fasten into the deck joists. This is a key factor which contributes to the life span of a Composite Deck, as the majority of the fasteners used to install composite decking never actually penetrate the surface of the deck board, leaving the colored external wrap undisturbed. There are areas in which you will need to use surface screw through the face of a composite deck board, such as the picture frame boards or boarder boards, and stair treads. In this case, it is recommended to use a screw and plug system. In this case, the fastener system has screws which are driven and counter sunk into the surface of the deck board, and at the same time, bore a whole in the surface of the board to accept a color match plug to seal up the surface of the board. Mountain View Building Materials stocks a variety of universal hidden fastener systems suitable for use with all the brands of composite deck boards we stock.
